(More Competent) Reasons you should be on FaceBook

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Well – it’s been a little while since we last talked about the pros of choosing FaceBook over MySpace.Tonight, we would a few worth-while reasons that will hopefully shine a new light on the pros of FaceBook.

  1. FaceBook can be reap professional rewards
FaceBook allows an individual to network with both friends and co-workers alike. Facebook allows an individual to format their page the way they want people to see it – you can present a professional presence, a ‘college’ presence, or somewhere in-between.
  2. FaceBook allows creativity
Why should I have to feel that I have no (or barely any) control over the look and feel of my page (like MySpace)? I want to be able to add, remove, or actually move items as I feel – not what some corporate developer feels is best.
  3. FaceBook allows Interactivity
With FaceBook I can interact with my friends in a new way – I’m able to renew old (yet friendly) rivalries or comradaries with old friends. I’m able to catch up with old friends renew friendships – all because of the next two:
  4. Privacy Concerns are less of a concern with Facebook
While privacy is a common concern with websites and FaceBook has had it’s fair share of (rising) complaints – compared with the alternative (MySpace) – FaceBook wins hands-down in my book. my profile is private and stays private – I invite (or accept) the people I know or want to know. If a friend of a friend sees my comment on friend’s wall – the most info they can get is my name and my network – nothing more, nothing less (unless I say so). With FaceBook – I control my privacy – not the other way around – it also allows limited profiles, something MySpace doesn’t do – to my knowledge.
  5. No (stupid) corporate sponsorship
I have nothing against NewsCorp (the parent company of MySpace), but I do have something against the idiotic sponsorship that NewsCorp participates in (ala. the Simpsons – 24 – need I say more?) – not to mention the highly inappropriate ads for minors (I have ‘nothing’ against them – I think they are highly inappropriate for young minors – who don’t know better). FaceBook – although increasing their advertising, as of late – makes their advertising appropriate and makes it blend appropriately with their look and feel (which above all things is necessary for modern dot-coms).

The above is only my meandering thoughts and commentary – based on my perception of the Social Networking industry.

Look me up, once you’re on FaceBook using my email: tim.bogus[at]gmail.com (replace with ‘at’ symbol).

Guest Blogger: Jacob Lange

Dear Bogo-heads,

Due to the lack of recent activity on Bogopolis, I have been brought in as a quest Blogger.

Given such an illustrious forum, I feel that I should say something meaningful and thought provoking, or perhaps something controversial. From the realm of current events, I was walking past the Apple Store yesterday and there was a line of 7 people right out the door. it turns out it was the [not-so-]much anticipated release of Apple’s new operating system Leopard.

Typically anything with the Apple emblem on it will sell like hot cakes. I think Steve Jobs could come out with the iCrap and people would still wait in line for it. But should we be so quick to embrace a new operating system? My answer is no.

My friend Nathan was one of the seven people who waited in line, and good old Leopard has far from fulfilled his Mac dreams. In fact, it is still not on his computer… it will not upload!

Not everything Apple makes is perfect, and especially with a new operating system, you are much better off waiting a few months until all the bugs are worked out.

Nathan, on behalf of Macintosh, Steve Jobs, and all the Apple-freaks, I apologize and I hope some time this week you can install Leopard so that you can help them identify all the bugs.

I can see clearly now…

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Hi all.

It’s so good to finally be able to share this news with you, because it means that Bogopolis.com can continue it’s world domination!

Many people have wondered what has been up with me, and well Bogopolis.com in general, these past few months – especially in September – when posts grinded to a near halt.

Well – there’s been a lot going on in Bogopolis Land – most of which can be summed in the following statement:

two weddings – one cross NYC move to Brooklyn – two roommate adjustments – after having no roommates for two years(one in the summer, and another with the same guy in the Fall – you rock Nathan!) – one hectic, yet fun month at church (celebrating our two-year anniversary somewhere in there – I love you Forefronters!), two bachelor parties (what happens there – stays there…), one trip to Indiana, one three-week cold that put me out of commission for a day at work (arghh… my perfect attendance record is shattered!), and to cap it all off – a 9.5 month long site re-launch at work that ended today – with the past three months being the most insanely busy…

- oh and did I mention that I still found time in there to start a couple of new cool projects (more coming soon…), help a couple of people move, and setup a sound system at home!?!?

I’ll pass on Brittany…

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

I’m done.

I am not joking this time – I am seriously done with Brittany Spears – it’s time to give HER a break.

I beg you, America, give the poor girl a break – she’s divorced, (tried) to raise two kids on her own, failed, and subsequently lost any rights to see her kids.

I personally believe it’s a shame that America finds fascination in a celebrity who has no idea how to live her life and expects instant gratification from you and me. If this were a Jane Shmo from Alabama – would we really care? I think we would, but not in the way we care about Brittany Spears who seems to have been placed in the position of ‘village idiot’ by the press, the world, and us as individuals.

Would you find it fascinating to watch me throw my life away on ‘national television’ – I want to think not. I would hope those that are close to me would help me find way and those that aren’t I would hope that they would respect my privacy as I try to pull my life together.

The sad thing is America has told Brittany that this is the only way she’s going to continue to get attention. She will keep doing this and fully throw her life away – because all she has been throughout her life is to crave, expect, and act upon the attention she receives.

I’m as guily as anybody else – on celebrity fascination, but…

Please, America, surely there is something more worthwhile we can latch onto – like this? just kidding, but I hope you get my point.

A Bite of the Apple – iNation

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

I went to the Apple Store this evening (ok, before my collective audience groans about my addiction to ‘the apple’ – give me a second) and I saw something amazing…

Of all the times I’ve been to the Apple Store, here in NYC, it’s always been busy but never as busy as it was tonight. This place was packed – and I mean ‘the day after Thanksgiving’ packed. In addition to the mile long line to checkout – there were four Apple Specialists in the four corners of the store at ‘kiosks’ selling iPhones and the new models of the iPod Touch.

I’ve never add this thought before – in such a peciluar manner:
Have we finally become an iNation – perhaps the ‘United States of Apple’?

I enjoy Apple and the consumer electronics they put out, but I was just amazed how much Apple is beginning to envelope the country – even if the Microsofties don’t want to admit it… It’s odd how Apple is becoming as much of a fashion trend as much as it is a technology trend.

BTW: I’ve begun using my new iPod Shuffle and let me tell you – it’s iTastic!

The Genesse Grande – Post Factum

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Well – I survived the most grueling/exciting/fantastic wedding weekend ever.

I laughed.

I cried.

I danced.

The Jordan (Shemwell) wedding went fantastically fine. I hope to have several (possibly incriminating) photos soon. I will post the links within the comments section. As far as future posting – expect an upcoming announcement about developments at Bogopolis.com within the next couple of days. Explanations, promises, and future plans will be divulged.

I hope you keep coming back to Bogopolis.com in the coming weeks – I promise – it will be worth it.
