The Proper Care and Feeding of Mexican Blankets

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I went to Mexico once – actually I went two times.  In both trips I bought authentic Mexican blankets.  What I didn’t realize is that when I bought them – it wasn’t like buying stuff in America, where they tell you how to take care of what you purchased – down to ‘Do not remove this tag under penalty of a death squad’ (I’ve always been afraid of this – when I’ve done it – I once jumped when the phone rang immediately after I did that…).

At the market I went to in Mexico, items did not come with labels sewn in to tell me how to take care of it.  So, for your pleasure – I will share with you how to properly wash and dry an authentic Mexican blanket:

  1. Clean blanket of all foreign objects (in my case this included grass from the last time I used it – hence the need to wash)
  2. Wash blanket(s) separately from all other clothing (the die used in the blankets tends to bleed the first few times they are washed) Note: it is OK to place multiple blankets together – this will increase your washing efficiency and it will help save the environment by conserving water.
  3. Wash in cold water
  4. Dry in a cool, tumble dry environment – or if you’re like me and you live in a big city and only have access to the industrial sized dryers – it is best to air dry the blankets – the blankets will dry pretty quickly.

Happy Sleeping.

My Day of Rest

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

It has come to my attention that some of you in Bogopolis land – you know who you are – think it’s fun to chastise me via third parties for being tired and taking a much needed break from life – to sleep.

Now, I’m not going to names – because public shaming has already outed you – but trust me (and I do mean trust me) that the next time you take a break – I’ll be right there reminding you of this time…

Don’t get me wrong – I appreciate all instances of being missed – but sometimes a guy has just gotta rest!

There is a lot that this post doesn’t go into (in time, you all shall know..) – but trust me that when I take a day of rest (which has been very rarely in the past few months) my body needs it and those that live, work, and fellowship me will thank me for doing so – in the long run.

P.S.
I love you all – without you I do not know where I’d be. :)

Saying No

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Why is it so difficult to say no?

Why does it feel that the only thing to say is yes?

What happens when we yes, more than we should?

I’ve been thinking about these questions – in my own life – over the past few days. It’s probably the first time in my life that I’ve ‘faced the music’ that my hand is ‘in too many cookie jars’ – meaning my commitment level is much higher than the energy I can expend. I ponder these thoughts not from a selfish perspective but a perspective of mankind:

It seems that there are two settings on a human being (at least from my perspective) – we either go real slow or we go real fast – we always seems to miss that middle setting of somewhere between being active and taking time for ourselves.

CNN on Global Warming and smaller people

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

If you’ve noticed that mankind have been getting smaller, you might not be that far off…

According to CNN (and I’m paraphrasing…): ‘People are getting smaller due to Global Warming…’

Well – there you have it, folks… CNN has reported their agenda of a great public service announcement to the people of the world – a tribute to the purveyors of environmental ‘action’.

Goodness.
