A non-tech girlfriend for a tech-savvy guy…

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

For the record – I’m talking about me as the tech-savvy guy…

Spoke with my bio-mom today on the phone… She was visiting my brother in Kansas City – he’s stationed near there for the short term. They were both trying to find pictures of my girlfriend, presumably from her ‘friend account’ on either FaceBook or MySpace – linked to mine.

Well, what they didn’t know is that my girlfriend belongs to neither of those services. In fact, my girlfriend found it quite humorous that my family – or anybody for that matter would expect a significant other to automatically be on the other’s social network page.

After telling everybody that my girlfriend was intentionally not my friend because she chooses to not be a ‘virtual friend’ – my mother goes on to seek reassurance that we’re still dating…

Now, I ask you this: Why is it so hard to imagine a tech-savvy individual, like myself, dating a self-admitted ‘techno-phobe’ (or something like that)? Why does society expect similar people to be paired together in relationships? Haven’t ‘we’ gotten past that yet?

Oh – crazy times…

Y’all know I don’t like change… As I told you a few weeks back my campus ministry I went to in college – one of many homes around this countries (I’m young, but yes I have many) – is moving (literally) to a new location.

Well, I’ve been working with them as their web guru for a few years now. Anyway, I was helping TJ (a current student leader there) upload some images to the site yesterday – not really helping but providing feedback – and as I was looking at the photos it seriously made my heart wrench looking at the home where I spent two awesome years and had the opportunity to meet several lifetime friends being ‘torn down’, moved, and rebuilt.

I got to thinking about stuff in my own life – the way things have gone the past few weeks – how that process seems to be existent everywhere: tear down, move, and rebuild (stronger) – there’s a lot of pain in the process, but you know it’s going to be worth it in the end – in case particular case it will be for something more than a single person – because that’s what God’s kingdom is really about, right?

Anyway, enjoy the pictures. I don’t organizations that are crazy enough to do something like this – but they are out there!

The Classics Live On…

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Note: I wrote this for another one of my blogs awhile back but I wanted to post it here:

I grew up in the 1990′s.

I was listening to Ed Young’s Table Series this afternoon – I was falling asleep on the couch (don’t think it was that, but merely the ‘Sunday Doldrums’ getting to me.)…

Anyway, I digress.

He mentioned at the very end of part one about the Newsboys song “Breakfast” where it says “they don’t serve breakfast in Hell…”.

That reminded me of my junior high/high school days when the newsboys were ‘the in’ of Christian contemporary music and I really liked that song…

Long story, short – I got on iTunes and bought the shine album.

I love the nineties – but – God Bless the 21st century!
